<note>The aim of any review is to provide a bridge to the primary literature, to enable the reader to progress to experimental papers, read them in context, and understand the question being investigated. The study of telomeres, the specialized nucleoprotein structures the terminate linear chromosomes, is a particularly exciting and diverse field. This book aims to introduce the concepts and central questions along with the body of experimental data. I hope ot will be an accessible introduction to a field full of fascinating and unique phenomena for the advanced undergraduate. The main target is the molecular biologist new to telomeres but my hope is that the treatment of such a large reference base will continue to make it of use to those more familiar with the field.</note>
